Jupiter Crosses My Ascendant

For the seventh time in my life, transiting Jupiter is about to cross my Ascendant. It's useful to look back at other times when the planet has crossed. If I look back to June 1st of 1999, I can see that Jupiter crossed my Ascendant at a time when I had decided to leave the Australian International School. At some point later in the year, I flew to Hong Kong for a job interview and was looking at other prospects.

Jupiter moved forward into my first house and stationed in late August of 1999 in 5° of Taurus. Turning retrograde, it stationed again on December 21st, exactly on my Ascendant. This corresponded to my departure from Singapore and my arrival in Jakarta, a pivotal change in the course of my life. The station on my Ascendant was the reason for the potency of this Jupiter contact with my Ascendant. Often Jupiter can whiz by the Ascendant once and not cross again until the next cycle.

This was the case for Jupiter's next crossing in May of 2011 where, as far as I can recollect, nothing major happened. The same will be the case this coming time when it crosses on April 21st 2023. It seems that I may well be spending a week in Kalimantan starting from the 19th of April, so that is in keeping with the nature of the aspect. See Figure 1 for the details.

I am indeed in Kalimantan, having arrived in Banjarmasin yesterday and departing a week from today on Saturday, April 29th 2023.

73rd Solar Return Approaches

Figure 1 shows the current transits as they affect my natal chart, a day before the Sun returns to the exact position it occupied at the time of my birth.

Figure 1

What struck me was the looming opposition of transiting Saturn to my natal Saturn. I'd forgotten how important the transits of this planet to its natal position have been in my past. Figure 2 shows the time in years since my birth when the planet has been in square, conjunction and opposition to its natal position. Of course these times are not exact because the ignore retrograde motion but they represent approximations.

Figure 2

All these times are associated with important events in my life and in particular the last opposition, soon after my 44th birthday in 1993, was quite dramatic in many ways. Could this coming opposition turn out to be similarly dramatic? Things are stirring, that's for sure. Time will tell.

Saturn in currently moving forward through Aquarius and will station in 25°15' on June 4th 2022. It will retreat to 18°35' by October 23rd 2022 and then move swiftly forward to an exact opposition in 0°01' of Pisces on March 8th 2023. After moving forward into Pisces, it will later retrograde before stationing in 0°30' Pisces on November 4th 2023. The full force of the aspect will probably be felt around that time. The 73.64 years shown in Figure 2 is a rough average of all these backwards and forwards motions of the planet.

It's interesting to note that transiting Pluto just hovers around Jupiter and my MC over this entire period. When Saturn stations opposite its natal position in November of 2023, Pluto is in 28°02' of Capricorn. Currently, on April 1st of 2022, it is in 28°24' of Capricorn!

More on the Mars-Venus Conjunction

In my Astrological Meanderings blog, my latest post on Periodicity of Mars-Venus Conjunctions contained the information that conjunctions of Mars and Venus recur in roughly the same position of the Zodiac every 32 years (plus 0.5 to 4 days). As an example:

  • 16°17' of Leo at 12:21am on July 13th 1989
  • 19°49' of Leo at 8:33pm on July 13th 2021
  • 23°26' of Leo at 7.42pm on July 14th 2053

This means that my natal Mars-Venus conjunction recurred around April 3rd of 1981 and 2013. I doubt whether I'll see the next conjunction which will be in 2045. The conjunction in 1981 occurred on April 5th at 11:27am in 14°44' of Aries. See Figure 1.

The 2013 conjunction occurred on April 7th at 11:59am in 19°57' of Aries. See Figure 2.

I'm hopefully starting to make better use of this blog by addressing broader, impersonal issues in my Astrological Meanderings blog (such as Periodicity of Mars-Venus Conjunctions) and then applying them on a personal level to this blog.

April and Aries

Let's look at the transits to my chart for 10:30am on April 16th 2026. The activity in Aries in intense as Figure 1 shows: Figure 1 Figu...
